K-Mart Now Offering The $150 AUGEN GENTOUCH 78 Android Tablet

If you thought the $500+ Apple iPad was your only option here in the US you were sort of correct. The K-Mart stores throughout Florida have now begun selling a 7-inch Android tablet of their own. The tablet itself features meager specifications compared to the iPad. The tablet features 2GB of storage, 256MB of RAM, Wi-Fi and Android 2.1 OS with full access to the Android Marketplace.
The tablet they are carrying in Florida based K-Mart shopping centers is called the GENTOUCH 78 by AUGEN. AUGEN other than making the 7-inch GenTouch tablet pictured above also manufacture an e-reader named “TheBook” and that sells for $89. [Via]

My Kmart had 5 of them but I couldn’t get passed how slow/unresponsive it was. You can see the quick video I made while I was testing it out here:

Garbage. It simply lacks the hardware to support the software – and when I say that, I mean stuff like buttons and a keyboard. You can’t factory reset the thing, the wireless is subpar and the touchscreen works about half the time. It gets hot on the bottom of the unit and it thinks it’s a phone. I returned mine after about 36 hours of noodling.
