The Notion Ink Adam Tablet + Nvidia’s Tegra 2 A Match Made In Heaven

As you should know by now if you have been following the news on the Notion Ink Adam Tablet, the tablet will feature the new Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC (System-on-Chip). The Nvidia Tegra 2 is an interesting chip because it features 8 independent processors, check out the pictured diagram below. The Tegra 2 which is the follow up to the much loved Tegra processor is a big leap forward for Nvidia. The new Tegra 2 features two yes two ARM Cortex A9 cores and each clock in at 1GHz.

To save you time we’ll summarize for you, the performance that you will see In every video the Tegra 2 is amazing! It handles Full 1080p HD playback no problem, Flash no problem and real 3D gaming is flawless as well. To answer any question about battery life we can only quote what Nvidia has said, “over 140 hours audio and over 16 hours of HD video playback”.

Notion Ink Adam Tablet Nvidia Tegra 2Now the Adam tablet being paired up with this Nvidia ARM-based processor is a very good move on the part of Notion Ink. The potential of the Adam with this particular processor is limitless. The Adam could really be able to do anything. Real 3D gaming, 1080p content, browse the full web and reading books and magazines with ease is a possible reality for the Adam.

Sadly though for now the Adam tablet still has to meet with the FCC for approval and the release date is dependent on just how quick that process takes place. If the tablet isn’t approved before January then according to Notion Ink the tablet will be released in retail stores at CES 2011. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that but be prepared for that just in case.

The pricing for the tablet was unveiled a last week here’s how that will work:

  • Adam Tablet with LCD display and Wi-Fi for $399
  • Adam Tablet with LCD display and 3G (and Wi-Fi) for $449
  • Adam Tablet with Pixel Qi display and Wi-Fi for $449
  • Adam Tablet with Pixel Qi display, 3G and Wi-Fi for $498
