Hopes Of A Android 3.0 Galaxy Update Rest On International Partners, Says Samsung Rep

Samsung Galaxy Tab front and backThe Samsung Galaxy Tab was just officially announced by Samsung but with Android 2.2 Froyo. The Froyo OS was designed for smartphones and not tablets but the Galaxy Tab does a great job of making it work in its favor. The new version of Android that should start to roll out in 2011 is Android 3.0 Gingerbread and that OS will be more for tablets. The way the Galaxy Tab is right now it runs a custom OS based on Android 2.2 but its been tweeked by Samsung to fit better with the 7-inch  Galaxy Tab.

The Product Planner for Samsung WT Hong has said today in an interview with TechRadar, “depending on our international partners, we’ll be working to upgrade from Froyo to Gingerbread.” So that could mean that a 3.0 upgrade could actually happen. As of now there are no complaints of the Galaxy Tab as it is with 2.2 but it would be nice to still get Android 3.0 on the tablet. [Via]
