Motorola XOOM Pricing For Best Buy Revealed, One Bad Catch
Posted on 07. Feb, 2011 by TabletMan in Tablets
Late tonight some shots of an upcoming Best Buy Sunday paper advertisement for Motorola’s XOOM have leaked. . The advertisement shows the XOOM will be offered for $799.99, which is a $100 increase over the unofficial pricing leaked last month.
We have already made remarks to the pricing being a bit on the high side, but the new ad shows that the tablet will come with a stipulation that requires each customer to sign-up for at least one month of Verizon Wireless 3G data to unlock Wi-Fi on the tablet. Yes, when you go to buy your XOOM later this month –February 24 to be precise– you will get a tablet that has Wi-Fi access blocked if you don’t sign-up for at least one month of data coverage from Verizon. The data packages according to the advert will start from as low as $20/month for a 1GB allowance.
The XOOM comes with some really great specifications but with this type of pricing the devices success could be handicapped. Hopefully Motorola is quick about launching a more diverse group of tablets at “different” prices like CEO Sanjay Jha stated a few weeks ago. [Via]
