The very nice HTC Flyer 7-inch tablet has been unveiled, shown off in a nice 6 minute demo video, and now it’s had a price come out. The tablet has been priced in the U.K. on the Carphone Warehouse website. The 7-inch Flyer is currently only available for pre-orders but the price is what is the real story here.
On the Carphone Warehouse website the tablet has been listed for £599.99, yes £599.99. For that price you get a Flyer tablet with 32GB of built-in storage and 3G connectivity. The tablet at this time is expected to launch with 32GB storage and the option for either Wi-Fi only or 3G mobile broadband.
The £599.99 isn’t attractive in the slightest, even though the Flyer has a really cool unibody design and a great Scribe Technology infused stylus. For below that £599.99 price you can currently buy or pre-order a whole host of 10.1-inch Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets and one 7-inch Android 3.0 tablet in the U.K..
The 7-inch 8GB Acer ICONIA Tab A100 Android 3.0 tablet will sell for £299.99. The 10.1-inch 16GB ASUS Eee Pad Transformer with its special keyboard dock is selling for £429.99 currently. The 10.1-inch 32GB Acer ICONIA Tab A500 will sell for £449.99. Even the 10.1-inch 32GB Motorola XOOM is currently selling for £479.99.
For the 3G and the special stylus you will be paying quite the premium. However at this time it’s worth noting that HTC or any other retail partners have not revealed pricing for the Wi-Fi only model. Hopefully the price is so high due to the 3G radio and the Wi-Fi only price for the Flyer will be a bit more competitive with other Android tablets.
Oh it’s also worth noting that the Flyer will not launch with Android 3.0 Honeycomb the tablet will get updated from Android 2.4 Gingerbread in future.

This is too bad. I have an iPad and love it, but I have a mother that wants a tab and a sister graduating from college. They want a 7 inch tab, but it won’t be an htc, which for me was THE MOST INTERESTING option out there. The playbook looked nice, but I’m not taking the chance. I wasn’t interested in the galaxy tab, but at $350 I am now! The only thing my iPad lacks is a REAL pen. I can’t stand these oversized crayons with cheap felt on the tip that coat 30 bucks. HTC has the best, real option, that no one is going to buy! They might as well chop these flyer tabs up and sell off the parts, because at this price it’s simply irrational to buy it. They will wind up like Samsung. Sitting around for several months on tabs that don’t sell, and then, hopefully they will WAKE UP!
