Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Apple iPad 2If there was a tablet maker that took some exception to Apple taking the title of thinnest tablet around with iPad 2, it was Samsung. Actually Samsung was so incensed they had rushed out and redesigned their first 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab to make it just thinner than iPad 2, that tablet is named Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Samsung showed the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 which is 0.1″ thinner than the new iPad 2 at Mobile World Congress alongside their equally thin Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet (8.9-inch display). However the actual models that were shown weren’t working tablets, just dummy units.

Today on the other hand I have a new video to share with you which features the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The tablet in the video is a working sample of the 10.1 and can be seen running on Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system for tablets. Also the Tab get’s compared to the iPad 2 momentarily.

–video is narrated in Vietnamese–

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has already will be priced at $499 (16GB) and $599 (32GB) for Wi-Fi only models and Samsung has announced they will launch the new 10.1 along with the new 8.9 in June of this year.

It doesn’t matter if its thinner than iPad 2, until Android 3.0 matures more and gets more polished the 10.1 will be a dud.

Looks like Samsung is going a good job with this tablet. I still like the Asus Transformer form factor–a dock that attaches easily especially for traveling instead of carrying multiple items.

The screen on the Samsung tabs will be the new tech above the IPS screen with HD pixel density so they should look very good.

After seeing the PlayBook I think there are a few OS features that Android could benefit from by borrowing from the PlayBook. It will be interesting watching these two new tablet operating systems mature this year. Lots of choices for tablets this year.
