ViewSonic Unveils 7-inch Android 3.0 Honeycomb Tablet

Posted on 30. May, 2011 by in Tablets

Could ViewSonic launch the first Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet? Possible, today the electronics maker unveiled their 7-inch ViewSonic ViewPad 7x tablet which was rumored earlier this month.

At this time no Android 3.0 tablets have been available in the portable 7-inch form-factor, Acer was the only manufacturer to announce one but recently the Honeycomb inclusive Acer ICONIA Tab A100 was postponed to 2H 2011.

ViewSonic representatives at Computex Taipei 2011, the launch site for this tablet, did not give a release date or planned price for the ViewPad 7x. However information on the features buyers should expect for the tablet.

Main technical specifications for the ViewSonic ViewPad 7x

  • Google Android 3.0.1 operating system (that is not the recently released 3.1)
  • 7-inch capacitive 10-finger multi-touch LED (1024 x 600 resolution)
  • NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 dual-core processor
  • NVIDIA ULP GeForce graphics
  • HSPA+ mobile broadband support
  • Dual Cameras (one front, one rear)
  • mini-HDMI output, mini-USB 2.0 output, headphone jack
  • DLNA support and SRW TruMedia included

Given all those features the ViewPad 7x will be a 7-inch tablet to watch, although the display resolution could be higher. You are likely to see this tablet pop-up at carriers who support the HSPA+ standard when the tablet launches, with subsidies I hope. When ViewSonic produces some pricing and release details expect a follow-up post.

Below you can see some hands-on photos captured by Engadget in Taipei, Taiwan.
