Huawei MediaPad Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb 7-inch TabletThe Huawei MediaPad tablet which was teased twice last week has been officially unveiled today in Singapore before the CommunicAsia 2011 trade show. The new tablet looks just like the teasers images and videos lead us to believe it would look but their were some surprises announced by Huawei today.

The 7-inch tablet runs on Google’s Android Honeycomb operating systems for tablets but not the Android 3.0 and 3.1 versions we’ve seen before but an altered version dubbed Android 3.2. With Android 3.2 Huawei claims there have been alterations made to the recent Android 3.1 release which allow the operating system to play nice with a 7-inch tablet.

The versions of Android Honeycomb released thus far have been tailored more for large screen devices (around 10-inches).The new 7-inch Huawei MediaPad offers up a 7-inch display with 1280 × 800 resolution, so to make the user experience better for Honeycomb Huawei had to offer up a solution thus the announcement of Android 3.2.

Other than the new/customized operating system the technical specifications for the MediaPad are better than expected. The tablet offers a 7-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, a 1.3MP front facing camera and a 5MP rear camera with Auto Focus, HD video recording, Adobe Flash Player support, 1080p Full HD video output with the built-in mini-HDMI port, a micro-USB 2.0 port, HSPA+ 14.4Mbps mobile broadband, 802.11n Wi-Fi, over six hours of battery life, a 0.4-inch (10.5mm) slim profile and the tablet weights just 0.86 pounds (390g).

Huawei plans to start shipping the new MediaPad tablet to the US market in Q3 of this year, a price has not been announced yet. Check out more coverage about this announcement here at VR-Zone.
