Are There No Cheap Tablets That Aren’t Total Junk?

Tablet computers have been around for sometime but they are just now starting to get really portable and fun to use. Before you had to carry around very heavy and limited devices if you really wanted to use a tablet computer.
However with the great advancements it seems like all the really cool tablets that get the most press cost a bit of money. On average the best rated tablets cost around $400-$500. You don’t really get to read too much or see to much of tablets in lets say the $100-$200 range if you aren’t actively seeking them out.
There really are decent tablets that are priced rather affordably. No they aren’t going to be able to compete head-to-head with the $500 tablets in speed or polish tests but they will be able to do the same general stuff.
Most people look into buying a tablet for browsing the web on-the-go, watching video and listening to music, and some for using mobile applications. The good thing is a tablet that is priced at around $100 can do those things with decent performance.
Some examples of affordable tablets that can easily do those tasks include the following:
- Archos 7 Home Tablet
– $156.47
- AUGEN GENTOUCH 78 – $99
- Coby Kyros MID7024-4G – $159.95
- Zenithink ePad
- $156.65
Now when you are looking to buy a cheap tablet you should look for retailers that are established with good product return policies. Established online retailers like Amazon.com or Buy.com have good return policies so if you aren’t satisfied with your cheap tablet you can just send it back for a refund.
It might tempt you to look on eBay for a cheap tablet but if you have no experience with using eBay.com you should do some homework. With eBay there are plenty of opportunities for you to get scammed. You will have to be very vigilant and look deep into a sellers past transactions to make sure you are dealing with a legitimate person, there are a lot of legit sellers on eBay their just hard to find sometimes.
As a last word, you should know what you are going to get or better what you’re not going to get with a cheap or low-cost tablet computer. If you are going to find a resistive touchscreen to much of a pain or if you find it inconvenient to have to buy your own storage (a microSD card), then a cheap tablet isn’t going to be for you. If you are that kind of tablet buyer there are some good tablets (new/refurbished/on-contract/contract free) in the $200 and $300 price range, something like a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7-inch Android tablet would suite your needs.
