Archos Just Bumped Up The Prices On Their Unreleased Gen 9 Tablets

Archos Gen 9 Android Honeycomb tabletsHad your eyes and wallet set on getting a Archos Gen 9 Android Honeycomb tablet for as little as $279? Archos just dashed those dreams with their new pricing update. The base of the base model for Archos Gen 9 tablets will hit you for $300 now and on the top-end you’ll pay as much as $470 with the new prices.

Now how does this price change affect each model? Well the 8-inch Archos 80 G9 will cost you $300 and $330 for 8GB and 16GB capacities and the 250GB HDD model will go for $370. The 10-inch Archos 101 G9 on the other hand will be going for $370 and $400 for 8GB and 16GB flash memory capacities and for the 250GB HDD model you’ll pay $470.

The change in price isn’t all the change that Archos has enacted today, though. The processor choices have been rearranged as well. Now if you want the potentially fastest dual-core chip in a tablet the 1.5 GHz TI OMAP4460 you’ll need to buy a 250GB HDD model, the flash memory storage models (8GB and 16GB) will have 1 GHz TI OMAP dual-core chips now.

Archos isn’t giving a reason for the price increase but I have my own theory. The cost to manufacture these tablets has gone up with the tight component supply. Currently there is a shortage of displays and other key components for tablet OEM’s. Archos might have been on the losing end of shortage and a component price hike was their prize.

However even with the prices going up the Archos 80 and 101 Gen 9 Android tablets are still priced competitively for all that you get. So if the price increase isn’t bothersome to you can go to the Archos website and sign-up to get notified the minute these two tablets get launched in September.

Archos confirms that there was a typo on their website over the weekend. All Archos 80 G9 in 16GB and 250GB and Archos 101 G9 in 16GB and 250GB will use the OMAP4460 1.5Ghz processor. Thus 50% faster than the iPad2 and Tegra2 Honeycomb tablets such as Xoom and Asus Transformer.
