NVIDIA: Tegra 3 Tablets Coming This Fall

Posted on 03. Aug, 2011 by in Tablets

Nvidia logoThis year has belonged to Nvidia when it comes to chip presence, the companies dual-core Tegra 2 SoC has been featured on just about every major tablet released this year. However more is on the way from Nvidia, a brand new chip will begin gracing tablets this Fall according to reports.

The quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC will be featured in tablets starting in just a few months.

There is no official word on who will be launching a tablet this soon with a quad-core chip but I do have some ideas. The next gen. Motorola XOOM perhaps, or maybe the Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2, both models have been rumored to ship later this year and the Tegra 3 could come in either one.

However let’s leave speculation for later and focus on what we know about the Tegra 3. Alright according to Nvidia the new Tegra 3 will feature a processor with four cores, a GPU with 12 cores, support for display resolutions as high as 2560-by-1200 pixels (on tablet or an external display), 1080p H.264 High Profile video decoding, and a 5x overall performance boast over the current 1 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 SoC processing chip.

In the past Nvidia has given some live demonstrations of the Tegra 3′s power, check out some YouTube videos from trade shows that Nvidia has given Tegra 3 demos:
