BlackBerry PlayBook prices cut by major Canadian retailers to boost sales

The RIM BlackBerry PlayBook has had prices knocked down by $100 at multiple retailers in Canada today. The retailers offering discounts include Best Buy (Canada), Future Shop (Canada), and Staples (Canada). At each of those retailers the PlayBook has been dropped down to $399 (16GB), $499 (32GB) and $599 (64GB) in Canadian dollars.
Another place where you might have a shot at getting the BlackBerry PlayBook for below MSRP is Walmart (Canada). It’s being reported by some Canadian Walmart customers that the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook is being sold for as little as $249 CAD at Walmart, but others are also reporting that their local Wal-Mart stores aren’t offering that pricing. You’ll just need to go into your local Walmart and check if they have the deal or not, the Walmart.ca website doesn’t allow purchases of the PlayBook.
The other day the web was abuzz with reports that RIM was having difficulties selling PlayBook tablets and they had to claw-back their production orders drastically. I had suggested a price drop would help RIM and their retailers move the PlayBook with better efficiency, but it looks like RIM’s official retail partners are the only ones willing to budge on price, RIM hasn’t announced an official price drop yet.

Playbook is great for music, video, and youtube because of its small size. The touchscreen is nowhere near the iPad. you will find it very frustrating if you use this tablet for other purposes. you can get a new playbook on ebay for around $300 now.
