Bloomberg reports that Apple has cut their supply chain orders for the iPad tablet by 25% for the fourth and final quarter of 2011.

According to research reported by JP Morgan Chase & Co. Apple will have 13 million iPad tablets produced in the fourth quarter. JP Morgan Chase & Co. reports that in the previous quarter (Q3 2011) Apple had some 17 million iPads produced. The order cuts are expected to impact vendors like Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., according to JP Morgan Chase & Co..

Apple officials were contacted by Bloomberg for comment on these reports and they have not replied.

If the reports are true, Apple is most likely making the cuts to get ready for the first iPad 3 production run that should start in the first quarter of 2011. Apple probably wouldn’t want to have a lot of iPad 2′s (the version of the iPad that’s still in active produce) in-stock before the iPad 3 is launched. In the fourth quarter the holiday shopping season is expected to be a big impact for Apple and the iPad for customer sales, if Apple has good fortunes the holiday shoppers will clear out most of the iPad 2′s that will be in-stock at retailers.

Apple announced they had sold 9.25 million iPads during the last quarter (Q3 2011) and when added that figure to the two previous quarters it all adds up to a total of 21.27 million iPads sold in 2011 (as of Q3).
