In case you missed it on Thursday the Videos Unlimited service from Sony was opened up to the 9.4-inch Sony Tablet S Android tablet. The Videos Unilimited is the re-branded video business that was a port of the Sony Qriocity music and video renting/purchasing service. The Videos Unlimited service offers users access to more than 6,500 movies and over 40,000 TV show episodes (major Hollywood releases down to Indie projects) for renting and purchasing.
When you rent a video on Videos Unlimited you have 30 days to watch the movie/TV episode and once you start watching it you’re allowed to watch an unlimited amount of times over a 24 hour time period (you can watch rented/purchased content on various devices–that support Videos Unlimited, of course).
When you purchase a movie or TV episode you will have access to the video content for, well, forever and Sony will allow you to transfer downloaded content to other Videos Unlimited devices hard drives (if you run out of space on your tablet).
Sony’s Videos Unlimited is a nice alternative/addition to the other renting services like Netflix or HULU Plus which require monthly memberships.
Sony Videos Unlimited is supported on the following non-tablet devices:
- Sony Bravia® Televisions
- Sony Blu-ray Disc™ Players
- Sony Blu-ray Home Theater Systems
- Sony Internet TV powered by Google TV
- Windows-based PCs through Media Go
- PlayStation®3 Systems*
- PSP®*
- Xperia™ Mobile Phones
*The video service is currently available on PlayStation® 3 and PlayStation® Portable devices through the PlayStation®Store.
