Toshiba has their own WQXGA (2560 × 1600) LCD and it’s 6.1-inches with 498ppi

Display tech buffs should be pleased with today’s news from Toshiba in Japan, the companies mobile display division has come up with a new 6.1-inch LCD that features a resolution of WQXGA (2560 × 1600) that offers a whopping 498ppi, yes a pixel-per-inch count of 498. Toshiba isn’t being forward about how they plan to use the new 6.1-inch LCD in any commercial products. Although they have provided photos and specifications for the display.
Here is the LCD panel, it’s not mounted to any particular device. According to Toshiba this display is capable of 176 degree viewing angles, I don’t doubt them.
Here are comparisons of the of the clarity of the 498ppi Toshiba LCD versus other panels with lower pixel density. Toshiba reports their display can display 16,777,216 colors and the display features a contrast ratio of 1000:1.
