HP is trying to attract developers for webOS with $149 HP TouchPad

A new developer incentive from Hewlett-Packard is making it even plainer that major PC maker only discontinued webOS hardware and not the entire operating system back in August. HP is offering webOS developers the opportunity to purchase the very hard to find $149 HP TouchPad 32GB Wi-Fi tablet through the ‘TouchPad Device Purchase Program’.
According to HP the 9.7-inch TouchPad is available to developers through the Purchase Program for a limited time only through November 27th, 2011 or while supplies last, and the offer is available to registered webOS developers in the United States, Canada, and Europe only. For non-US developers the 32GB Wi-Fi TouchPad is priced at $149.99 CAD in Canada; €150 in Europe (includes VAT); £130 in the UK (includes VAT). Developers are limited to only two $149 HP TouchPad tablets and HP will not be accepting any returns on developer orders. –becoming a registered developer for webOS doesn’t require you pay HP any fees.
Right now retailers Best Buy, Sam’s Club and Walmart are selling HP TouchPads to anyone who buys an HP computer. If you’re a developer you’ll be better off taking advantage of the HP Purchase Program offer if you just want a TouchPad tablet.
As an HP TouchPad owner, I hope HP continues to support webOS and application developers. The HP TouchPad could use more applications (a lot more).
