U.S. based cable provider Time Warner Cable has released a tablet friendly version of their mobile companion application for Android tablets. The new application is titled TWC TV and it’s available free for download inside the official Android Market, but you’ll need a Time Warner Cable subscription and DVR to get the most out of the application.
According to Time Warner Cable’s description for the new application, TWC TV 1.0, the app will allow users to do just about everything possible for a TV oriented application except for live streaming. The live streaming function was added not to long ago to the TWC TV app for Apple’s iPad tablet, but for now Android tablet owners will need to wait for that functionality.
Things you will be able to do with the TWC TV 1.0 application:
- Interactive Program Guide (IPG) – a complete IPG experience, with 7 days of program listings including full program description
- Search – search TV listings by title or episode name
- Remote Control of STB – the ability to use the Android tablet as a set-top box remote control, choosing a program from the grid guide and tuning the DVR or set-top box to the selected channel.
- DVR Manager – the ability to remotely schedule or change upcoming DVR recordings
As for compatibility for various Android tablets the folks at Time Warner Cable say the following,
The app has been certified to run on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Motorola Xoom, but is designed to run on any Honeycomb (Android 3.x) tablet. Customers can download TWC TV™ 1.0 from the Android Market, launch it, log in and scroll through the interactive program guide to select preferred programming.
