In the spirit of fairness Asustek Computer Inc. has announced that today UK fans of their new Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet can place pre-orders for the tablet now. Transformer Prime fans in the US and Canada have been able to place pre-orders for the first quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 tablet for a few weeks now.
Retailers Currys, HMV, PC World, Carphone Warehouse, Ebuyer, and Tesco.com are taking pre-orders right now for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime in the UK. At any of the aforementioned retailers the only variation of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime is the 32GB Wi-Fi model + dock combo, which is priced at £499.99. For the US and Canada a 64GB Wi-Fi was also offered and both the 32GB and 64GB models didn’t come bundled with the dock (it’s optional for an extra $149.99 USD/CAD). Although for the UK the two main color options for the Transformer Prime, Gold and Grey, are both offered just as they have been in the US and Canada.
According to Carphone Warehouse at least, all pre-ordered Transformer Prime tablets will be delivered on the 17th of January 2012. The other retailers don’t say the 17th of January explicitly like Carphone Warehouse. The Verge reports that Asus said they will ship Transformer Prime tablets to the UK in early January, pre-order customers will get first dibs when that occurs.
As for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Asus promises that the newest version of Android OS is going to be offered to Transformer Prime owners soon via an over-the-air update (all Android updates you’ll get on an Asus tablet come that way). All Asus Transformer Prime tablets will be shipping with Android 3.2 Honeycomb initially.
