The Amazon Kindle reader application was updated for the Apple iPad and other iOS devices today. Amazon released version 2.9 of their mobile eBook and magazine reader application with a focus on enhancing the capabilities of the software across the board. For the iPad in particular Amazon added a five new things to the Kindle app, check out a summary below.
1. New design for magazines with the ability to browse through a selection of over 400 magazines that Amazon launched for their Kindle Fire tablet recently.
2. You can now read print replicas of textbooks. Amazon has incorporated support for adding notes and making highlights, zooming and panning through text, and the table of contents features hyperlinks that when clicked will take you to the relevant chapter/page of your choosing in any textbook.
3. You can now e-mail documents to your iPad with ease using the Amazon Kindle app and accompanying (and necessary) Send-to-Kindle e-mail address for free.
4. PDF reader support is also baked into the new and improved Kindle app. To send PDFs to your iPad for the Kindle app you may use iTunes which requires you transfer the desired PDF from the Mail app or Safari (both come pre-installed in your iPad), or you can mail them to the iPad using your Send-to-Kindle e-mail address. Amazon says their PDF reader, ”supports PDF table of contents and thumbnail navigation for quickly jumping through the document”.
5. The library has been updated to show any and all Kindle eBooks, Newsstand items, and Docs in icon form for you to click and enjoy upon firing up the Kindle app.
You can download the new Kindle app for the iPad now in the App Store for free, and if you’ve been using the Kindle app before today just update your app.
