More aggressive price introduced for HTC Flyer 7″ tablet in the UK

The HTC Flyer tablet was released earlier this year as a premium designed 7-inch tablet running the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system with HTC’s own Sense UI. The tablet boasted digital pen integration as a class differentiating feature, other 7-inch tablets didn’t feature stylus support that compared to the HTC Flyer’s Scribe technology. HTC released the Flyer tablet with two major variations, Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+3G as well as Wi-Fi+4G WiMAX for US carrier Sprint only under the name HTC EVO View 4G.
HTC’s Flyer offered a different approach to the 7-inch tablet, but consumers still didn’t rush out to purchase the premiumly priced tablet with the same vigor they pursued Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad tablet. At launch the Wi-Fi only HTC Flyer was sold in the US for $499, the Wi-Fi+3G model for $399.99 on contract, and the Wi-Fi+4G WiMAX EVO View 4G for $399.99 on contract.
The prices outside of the US like the UK weren’t any prettier. The 16GB Wi-Fi only model launched at £479.99, and the Wi-Fi+3G model for £599.99 with no contract. –Keep in mind that Flyer tablets sold in the U.S. didn’t include the device specific digital stylus pen, for the UK the pen was included with every Flyer purchased.
HTC failed to get many sales and this has resulted in prices being dropped by retailers looking to clear their shelves of the tablet. In the US the Wi-Fi only model had its price chopped down to $299 at Best Buy, and today Currys of the UK has begun offering the Wi-Fi only Flyer for just £199 online.
Curry’s of the UK is only allowing online purchases through their online store at this time, if you go into one of their physical stores you’ll need £379.97 to get the 16GB Wi-Fi HTC Flyer. As an added bonus you also get a free £50 store voucher that you can use on any purchase from Curry’s website.
