Sony has announced plans to offer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates to their tablets

As Samsung announced they won’t offer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates to their original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″ tablet owners the other day Sony announced their new Sony Tablet P and Sony Tablet S customers would get Android 4.0. Sony is providing no precise dates at this time, the Japanese company is only issuing assurances to their Sony Tablet customers that they do intend to release Android 4.0 updates to them when they have them ready.
Sony UK said,
Sony Tablet™ is evolving, and we’d like to keep you informed with the latest updates.
Today we’re happy to confirm that an update to Android 4.0 will be available for Sony Tablet. Details including timing will be announced in due course, so please stay tuned.
Just recently we released the Software Development Kit for Sony Tablet P. For more information on this and future updates please visit us at Sony Tablet Evolution.
Best regards

With Android devices getting the latest operating system from manufacturers isn’t always a given. Samsung released the Galaxy Tab 7″ tablet in late 2010 but since then they’ve only offered one update for Android OS (from Android 2.2 to Android 2.3). Hopefully Sony will continue to support their tablets through the years, but I wouldn’t count on it too much.
Currently the Sony Tablet P and S run Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb and after the Android 4.0 upgrade Sony would have issued a total of two Android OS updates for their tablets.
