Acer isn’t dumping tablets, in fact, for CES 2012 the company will be bringing out two new models that run Google’s Android operating system. Russian tech blog Nomobile has gotten an early scoop on the two new tablets.
According to Nomobile the tablets are going to be named Acer Iconia Tab A200 and Acer Iconia Tab A700, the A200 was detailed by Acer earlier this month and the A700 was leaked in November. Between the two models the Acer Iconia Tab A200 is the lower spec. tablet.
To save time I’ll just post the specifications revealed by Nomobile in a chart that compares the A200 and A700 side-by-side:

Here are some photos of the Acer Iconia Tab A200 and A700 that Nomobile posted on their website:
How practical will the 1920×1200 resolution screen be?
Right now Android OS doesn’t have the most robust selection of tablet specific applications and games, this is no secret. Now with Acer looking to add a tablet into the mix with a resolution that is about double the 1280×800 that other Android tablets have, Acer is creating more problems. With the A700 users will have to use Android’s Zoom to fill screen feature to the max in applications that don’t support 1920×1200 (that would include the lions share of current Android apps and games).
What’s the problem with having to use the Zoom to fill screen function within Android? Well you don’t get the full benefit of your high-resolution 1920×1200 screen if you’re an A700 owner. You will instead get blurry graphics which aren’t too nice on the eyes.
The only place you’ll be able to get the best out of your high-resolution 1920×1200 screen if you’re an A700 owner will be in video playback. You probably think that web browsing is going to be a lot better with the pixel dense display of the A700, but that will not be the case because most web pages aren’t fully optimized for 1920×1200 screens, you’re going to be pinching to zoom all the time.

Great coup and nice article. We’ve been discussing the Iconia Tab A700 over at http://iconiatabforums.com and expect it to be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
