Acer’s 10.1″ Iconia Tab A200 tablet will be affordable, but will it be good?

In 2012 you won’t be asked to pay an arm and a leg for a dual-core 10.1″ Android tablet, well at least not by Acer. Acer America announced today that the 10.1″ Acer Iconia Tab A200 tablet will be launched on January 15, 2012 with a $330 start price. For your $330 you get an Android tablet with 8GB of storage built-in, and for just $20 more you can get a model with 16GB of storage (other Android tablet makers charge as much as $100 for more built-in storage).
Acer is targeting their new Iconia Tab A200 at consumers who aren’t eager to plunk down $500 for a well equipped tablet. And make no mistake about it for your $330 you’re getting a very nice tablet in terms of hardware specifications.
The Acer Iconia Tab A200 features Google’s Android 3.2 Honeycomb (at launch), a 10.1″ 1280×800 capacitive multi-touch LCD, a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processing chip, 1GB of RAM, a 2MP front-facing camera, a microSD expansion card slot, full-size USB 2.0 port, micro-USB 2.0, Acer’s Clear.fi technology for wireless media streaming, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and up to 8 hours of estimated battery life from the tablets included 3260 mAh Li-Po rechargeable battery.
Acer promises that they will have free Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready for deployment in mid-February of 2012. The update will come over the air and won’t require a PC for installation.
Right now the only thing that could keep me from picking up a Acer Iconia Tab A200 later this month is if reviews (which should be out soon) find out the tablet isn’t that good to work with. There have been a lot of tablets that look good on paper (specifications) but don’t really work so well in real world use.

It looks like it actually may be a waterproof tablet. A translation of the original source says as much. Should be interesting to see what Toshiba has up its sleeve come CES. http://thriveforums.com
