Sleek 7-inch Toshiba tablet coming soon, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus competitor

The 7-inch tablet market is going in two different general directions, manufacturers are making cheaper models and they’re also designing visually pleasing tablets that tend to cost more money. Toshiba launched a 7-inch tablet back in 2011 that fit into a rare category, expensive but not so stylish. However Toshiba didn’t really give much of an effort in the design for their first 7-inch tablet, they simply took the same design from the 10.1-inch Thrive tablet and recycled a shrunken version of it for the 7-inch model.

The next gen. 7-inch tablet from Toshiba is going to be the device the company will use to flex it’s design abilities for all to see, and if reports from Notebook Italia prove true the new tablet should be the exact opposite of the current 7-inch Toshiba tablet, the new model will be cheap and stylish.

Pictured above next to the 2011 7-inch Toshiba Thrive (Black tablet) is the next 7-inch tablet that Toshiba is rumored to have in the works for release later in 2012. The tablets name hasn’t been revealed yet, but from the two photos released thus far it’s clear that the new tablet will be sleeker and slightly taller/longer than the 7-inch Thrive tablet. The design of the new 7-inch Toshiba tablet is designed in a way that reminds me very much of the 2011 Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus from the back.

There are only a few hardware specifications being reported right now for the new 7-inch Toshiba tablet, and there is zero news on which version of Android OS the tablet will run at launch. From the info provided by Notebook Italia the unnamed 7-inch Toshiba tablet for 2012 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM processing chip, the tablets 7-inch screen will have resolution set at 1024×600 (WSVGA), there is a rear camera that doesn’t have LED flash support, there are micro-USB and microSD ports/slots, and the tablet has Wi-Fi.

More details are sure to come as CES 2012 kicks-off next week in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.
