Acer has successfully launched their latest Google Android tablet in North America. The Acer Iconia Tab A200 which we’ve discussed on multiple occasions over the past few months is the name of that new Android tablet. With the new A200 tablet Acer is attempting to make a tablet that can attract all the people out there looking to get a dual-core 10.1″ tablet for under $400.
Features wise the Acer Iconia Tab A200 is equipped with many of the things that $500 tablets from 2011 featured. The A200 tablet offers a 10.1″ WXGA (1280×800) capacitive multi-touch LCD, a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processing chip, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, Android 3.2 Honeycomb, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, DLNA support (Clear.fi), microSD card slot, micro-USB, full-sized USB 2.0, and up to 8 hours of battery life from the lithium-ion battery.
According to Acer there are two major internal memory capacity options for the A200 tablet, 8GB or 16GB. However online there are only 16GB options available for purchase. The 8GB models will be named either A200-10g08u (Titanium Grey) or A200-10r08u (Red), the 16GB models are named A200-10g16u (Titanium Grey) or A200-10r16u (Red).
HDMI isn’t included
The Acer Iconia Tab A200 tablet features connectors for headphone, USB x2, and docking only. If you wanted HDMI out built-in to the tablet, sorry Acer has left that out in favor of wireless streaming technology like DLNA (Clear.fi) for video streaming to TVs. HDMI is something that most other tablets include, but as far as budget priced tablets go HDMI isn’t a standard feature.
Where to buy one
Online retailers are sparse at the moment but one of the largest retailers in the U.S. does state they have units in-stock online and offline.
Best Buy currently offer the 16GB model through their online store, and according to a notice on their website the tablet is also available in-store. The 16GB model offered by Best Buy is priced at the $349.99 that Acer lists as their official MSRP for that particular A200 tablet on their own US website.
If you want to save some money you can shop online for the Acer Iconia Tab A200 and save yourself up to $50 instantly. The 16GB model is being sold by Microcenter.com (yes they do have physical retail locations, but the price appears to be online only) who is selling the 16GB Wi-Fi Acer Iconia Tab A200 for $299.99 currently, whcih is down $50.00 from the $349.99 MSRP. On the Microcenter website they state that they have a limited supply for the $299.99 A200 tablet and they won’t honor any back-orders one their supply is drained.
PhoneArena.com has good unboxing video for the Acer Iconia Tab A200 tablet on their YouTube, I’ve embedded it below. If you’re going to purchase the A200 the video gives you a good idea of what you’ll get out of the box.
