If you have been waiting for someone to release a 7-inch Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet your only known hope Acer has just postponed launch of their model. The Acer ICIONA Tab A100 was supposed to be on the market by now or at least be coming this month if not the next, but Acer has postponed launch of the tablet until ’2H 2011′.
Right now the 7-inch tablet offerings for Google’s Android platform is still young, with only a two options from major manufacturers. There is the original Samsung Galaxy Tab from 2010 and the recently released (for Europe, at least) HTC Flyer tablet.
Neither of the two models is currently running on the Android 3.x Honeycomb platform that was created for tablets, Samsung’s device is just now starting to get updated from Android 2.2 up to Android 2.3.3 and for HTC their tablet runs a skinned version of Android 2.3.3 with hopes of getting onto the Android 3.x team as soon as possible.
Portability is key for the 7-inch tablet sector and here is how the Acer, HTC and Samsung tablets compare on dimensions and weight.
- Acer ICONIA Tab A100 – Dimensions: 195 x 117 x 13.1 mm; Weight: 470 g
- HTC Flyer – Dimensions: 195.4 x 122 x 13.2 mm; Weight: 420 g
- Samsung Galaxy Tab – Dimensions: L x B x H, 190.1 x 120.5 x 12 mm; Weight: 380 g
