Toshiba Thrive Update Released

Toshiba has released a over-the-air (OTA) software update for their newest tablet, the 10.1-inch Toshiba Thrive. Included with the new software update is a fix for the power management issues that have plagued Thrive owners ever since the tablet was launched last month. However that’s not all the new update offers up to Thrive owners, Toshiba has expanded video and audio playback support and patched a few other bugs as well.

Here is the full list of specific changes included with THRiVE System Image Update revision

  • Support for playback of DivX/Xvid and .avi WMA/WMA files (compatibility dependent on specific encoding format).
  • A patch, released by the chip vender, addressing a Display Controller reset sequence issue.
  • Elimination of a race condition which can cause system lock ups resuming from sleep mode when multiple tasks contend for shared memory simultaneously.
  • Changes in code supporting the USB host controller to improve performance resuming from sleep mode

On their support website the new update is said to take “several minutes” to complete and throughout the update you will not be able to use your tablet. Also after your install is done make sure to power off your Thrive tablet using the power button, after that you can turn on it back on and get back to enjoying your tablet.
