Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet details leaked, $249 dual-core 7-inch tablet

Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet leak 01Barnes & Noble has a new tablet on the way, that much has been confirmed by the company. Today, a major leak has occurred and the tablet that Barnes & Noble has put together for the 2011 Holiday shopping season has been fully exposed. Engadget has come into possession of several PowerPoint slides that outline the features, price, and release details for the 7-inch Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet.

The Nook Tablet is going to be the new Android based (though the version of Android isn’t known just yet) tablet that B&N will be releasing before the year is out. The tablet will be available for $249, according to the leaked slides, and it will be going on sale in a matter of weeks. Amazon’s Kindle Fire will become available on November 15th, 2011 and the B&N Nook Tablet will launch the very next day at major retailers. In the leaked slides B&N makes no attempt to hide from the $199 Kindle Fire, the way the slides read the Nook Tablet was designed to go head-to-head and beat the unreleased Kindle Fire.

In the following slide the full specifications for the Nook Tablet are compared and to those of the Kindle Fire and original B&N Nook Color e-reader.

The Kindle Fire has better video playback battery life, more support for Audio codecs, unlimited cloud storage for Amazon purchased content (Amazon sells mp3′s, movies, TV episodes, Android apps, as well as eBooks and digital magazines/newspapers), and dimensions have the Fire being a little compact than the Nook Tablet.
